Making India’s solar story shine

Finally, the energy pendulum has launched itself to swing in the direction of renewables.A record amount of solar power was supplied to the world’s grids in 2015, pushing RE capacity to grow by 152 GW. Interestingly, this was the highest surge ever recorded, primarily driven by huge capacity installations in Asia.

The numbers are indeed compelling. In India, solar installations increased by a staggering 142% in 2015 and 2016-17 is poised to record stronger growth with plans to add 12 GW of solar power by March ‘17. At this pace, India might soon join the ranks of the world’s largest solar energy producers, surpassing several developed nations and dwarfing current solar power giants such as Germany, China, Japan, and the United States.

India’s biggest milestone on global clean energy highway was the signing of Paris agreement on climate change at COP21. Interestingly enough, India took a leadership position at the event and launched a landmark initiative- ISA (International Solar Alliance).
