Mumbai bags gold in green building count
With few open spaces and an almost insatiable demand for commercial and residential buildings, the city is usually a major worry for environmentalists. But it is at least doing one thing right: it continues to host the maximum number of environment-friendly “green” buildings.
Mumbai has 753 buildings with advanced power and water conservation methods besides better sewage and garbage management systems, shows statistics released by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) ahead of the 14th Green Building Congress starting in the city on Thursday . It has pulled way ahead of second Delhi (497), and third Pune (379).
The two Maharashtra cities in the top three heralds that the state is leagues ahead of others in encouraging and constructing efficient buildings. It has 1,124 green buildings, with Tamil Nadu (355), Karnataka (354) and Uttar Pradesh (351) following.
